Somewhere to go when there are too many thoughts swirling in and around your head and you just can't concentrate. Some people felt that a bath was just the ticket to get their thoughts in order, but that didn't always work for Nora, and after attempting the bath idea, she dressed, dried her hair using a very handy spell, and slipped her wand back in her pocket. The bath was the warm option, and normally didn't fail her. She didn't even know why her head was so buzzing with thoughts today, it was just one of those days and it could be quite agitating. There was another place that always let her mind rest, but that was the cold option, and so she slipped a thick wool jumper over her head and put gloves on her hands, before making her way to her last thinking place. She probably didn't choose the best shoes for the occasion, but she did like these boots, and she always liked to look good. She'd have put a dress on, as she did prefer them to jeans, but it was too cold for that, and considering that the wind was available to attack her where she was going, exposing her legs wouldn't help retain heat at all.
The boots were quite long, too, so they should have kept her legs a little warmer, which was nice. There was always magic to turn to if she got too cold, but she thought that she would survive. There were people who lived in temperatures like this their whole lives, she could surely manage a few minutes. Climbing the final step to the astronomy tower, Nora's heels clicked on the stone, announcing her presence. Though Nora doubted anyone was up here, considering the temperature and the massive amounts of steps to climb, she couldn't assume that she was the only one there. A quick glance around, however, confirmed that she was the only one determined enough to trek up so many steps just to be cold. Maybe that wasn't determined, per se, and maybe 'stupid' fit a bit better. Brushing the floor, she took a seat and slipped her legs under the barrier so they were hanging over the edge. She didn't mind heights, that was never a problem, really. Well, she didn't mind heights as long as there was a barrier stopping her from falling. She lent on the railings, resting her head on her arms and looking out at the grounds.
No view really could compare to this. There was a white blanket of frost on the ground, as it was getting later in the evening and there was a cold pinch in the air. The wind whipped at her hair and pulled a few strands loose from the clip that she had in to pin it back. Nora didn't bother to re-adjust them, concentrating as much as she could instead on rearranging the buzz of thoughts in her head. Climbing the steps had seemed to calm her brain down a bit, but there were still thoughts about Dante, and how she'd have to watch it with him, and also thoughts about her school work, and then thoughts about the healer, Tim, too. She wanted to be a healer, that was what she wished that she would get to do in the future, and she was trying her best to succeed in her schoolwork so that this dream was possible. She heard more shoes on the stone and turned her head a little to see her best friend, Mina, walking toward her. She couldn't remember if they were on good or bad terms the last time they'd spoken, it was like a see-saw for them, with their friendship. "Were we arguing the other day or is that on today's menu?" |
Nora asked with a small smile. She didn't like arguing, but sometimes, it was hard not to, when Mina knew how to push her buttons. "Care to sit down?" Nora offered, brushing any dirt off the floor beside her.[/div] tagging adamina. wearing click for clothes! words 679. notes whooo xD this'll be interesting! lyrics count on me, bruno mars.

Why was Adamina going up to the Astronomy Tower? She hated heights with a passion so why on earth would she put venture up to such an altitude for anything but an Astronomy lesson? Even then, there was no reason for her to do so because she had long since dropped Astronomy. Oh yes, it was her ridiculous maternal nature that had forced her into this situation. Based purely on the synthetic statement that a first year boy had been tied to the railings (she hoped for his sake that it wasn't on the outside), Mina was going on a rescue mission. A suicide mission. She was putting her own life at risk to save a person that may or may not even be there. If she didn't slip and tumble to her doom then she was bound to have have a heart attack or some other disastrous outcome.
Upon reaching the top of the staircase, Adamina cautiously stepped out onto the main platform of the tower. Why did she never learn that Slytherins couldn't be trusted? She had been presented not with a distressed first year but a clearly comfortable sixth year. A sixth year that on some days was her best friend and on others was her worst enemy. The two of them had fallen out and made up so many times that their loud arguments surprised nobody but the unaccustomed first years. Nevertheless, Mina loved Nora, today anyway. "I think today's down for friendly but I suppose we could argue if you want." Come to think of it, that was probably inadvisable. They both had a habit of getting quite red in the face when they argued and it wasn't particularly uncommon for wands to be drawn. With such a long way down, Mina didn't want to take any chances, regardless of who got pushed.
Adamina shook her head as Nora offered her a seat beside her. "I might not argue with you every day but I'm definitely petrified of height every day," she replied, easing herself down against the wall. She wanted to be as far away from those railings as possible because she could quite easily fit underneath them and that worried her very much. Oh how much easier her life would be if she wasn't such a scaredy-cat. As much as Nora hated her sometimes, Mina doubted she'd let her get squashed like a pancake, even if she was a Muggle-born. It would've given her the opportunity to play Quidditch too. She'd have liked to try but could barely make it two metres off the floor without panicking, let alone trying to focus on the sport itself.

That was nice, Nora wasn't in the mood to argue really and her wand wasn't in a very accessible place. She shouldn't really store it in pockets like she did, they had warnings about that thing, but regardless, sitting down made it difficult to reach inside that pocket of hers and get at it. In an emergency she was sure she'd jump up quick enough to manage though, but then maybe in the midst of outrage in an argument, the same would be true. "Pass on the arguing, I don't think my mood is like that today. How's yours?" |
Nora asked, the same smile on her face. At times, Mina was her worst ever enemy, but Nora wouldn't let anyone touch a hair on her head, because the very next minute they could be best friends, and Nora loved Mina, no matter what was said during arguments, and regardless of blood status, although she did try and keep that from her father. With her head so full of thoughts, it was easy enough, Nora supposed, to forget the one that mattered when it came to offering your friend a seat at such a height. "Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight. Of course you wouldn't. Shame. It is a very pretty view." Nora said, before pulling herself up and taking a seat next to her friend instead. "So what in heaven's name are you doing all the way up here when you're scared of heights?" Nora asked with a frown, wondering what would drag Mina all the way up those steps when she didn't like the height in the first place. It had to be something important, as Nora couldn't think that she would do something like that for almost nothing. The astronomy tower was, of course, a very high place, it was obvious that someone with a fear of heights would hate it. Nora wasn't a huge fan of heights, but it was the falling that had always scared her, not the height itself, so as long as she knew it was safe, she would be fine there. If there were no railings, to be honest, she'd have probably panicked and been backed against the wall, shaking like a blade of grass in the wind when Mina found her. She'd probably have understood, what with her own fear, but she might have also found it amusing, to find someone who was usually so composed and so elegant and all those other words, shaking against a wall, scared that she was going to fall. That wasn't the only thing Nora was scared of, although she supposed she could describe it as such. She was scared of falling in love more than anything else, because it made her vulnerable and if she did and then got hurt, it would be terrible. But falling in love, and having a happy ending was all she really wanted.[/div] tagging adamina. wearing click for clothes! words 679. notes whooo xD this'll be interesting! lyrics count on me, bruno mars.
